Alleghany Highlands Cycling Festival | Volunteers

Volunteer Information

General Information

Thank you for volunteering your time and talents for the Alleghany Highlands Cycling Festival. There are a number of administrative and course safety roles that need volunteers. Currently, our greatest need is for Road Marshals.

For information on positions and times of service available, please contact our Volunteer Director, Lynda Thompson, at volunteers@ahcyclingfestival.com.

Road Marshal Information

Below are links to three documents that you will need to be familiar with to effectively perform the important job of road marshal.

The first document is the Road Marshal Guide. You should have received (or will receive) a copy of this at your training session, but we have reposted it here for reference.

VDOT Flagger Exam Study Guide

VDOT Training

The second document is a Study Guide that will prepare you for the brief VDOT flagger exam that we are requiring all road marshals to take. Please read this study guide through 1 or 2 times prior to taking the exam, and you should be in good shape.

VDOT Flagger Exam

The final document is the VDOT Flagger Exam. Relax - it's easy! Please number and provide your answers to volunteers@ahcyclingfestival.com in an email. Or, print out your exam, write down the answers and drop it off at the Alleghany Highlands Chamber of Commerce when you come to pick up your safety vest and flag.

Road Marshal Training Sessions

We will very shortly post a schedule of meeting dates, times and locations for a required 45-minute training session that all road marshals are required to attend. There will be three options available, all in June, to suit your work and family schedules.
