Ride Start: 9:30 AM at Walnut Creek Park, Albemarle County
Event Name: Gran Fondo Virginia.
Event Format: A gran fondo is a non-competitive but challenging ride with a European, and specifically Italian, tradition. Designed to challenge and inspire, the gran fondo celebrates the sport of cycling and welcomes all cyclists to the start line. The Gran Fondo Virginia offers three routes of 22, 52 and 102 miles.
Charity Beneficiary: Better World Betty, a Charlottesville-based grassroots environmental non-profit organization dedicated to sustainable living practices. Bicycling, for transportation or for recreation, is part of an environmentally-conscious and "green" lifestyle.
ATTENTION RIDERS: The Virginia Department of Transportation has requested that we change the route for the 104-mile Gran Fondo course, to avoid extra heavy traffic expected for the Interlochen Music Festival in Nelson County. While we regret this last minute change, we respect VDOT's concern for cyclist safety, and we have unrolled a pretty sweet "Plan B"!
The new 102-mile Gran Fondo route will now take riders past the Trump and Blenheim Wineries, and into the Town of Scottsville and past the James River Brewing Company, site of the after-ride party. While we've had to take out the long climb up Afton Mountain, we've thrown in a few "zingers" in the form of steep climbs, and added some truly amazing scenery! The new route is two miles shorter and offers 1600 fewer feet of climbing.
You can find the new course map and profile/GPS data from the "Courses" button on the left hand menu. The Medio and Piccolo courses remain unchanged.

The event starts at 9:30 AM at Walnut Creek Park, 7 miles south of Charlottesville.
